Tele-MANAS (Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States) is a national initiative launched by the Government of India on 10th October 2022 to provide free, round-the-clock tele-mental health services, particularly for people in underserved or remote areas.
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh is one of the key institutions rolling out this program, working as Mentoring Institute (MI) & Regional Coordinating Centre (RCC).
PGIMER, alongside other centres of excellence like NIMHANS Bengaluru, is offering counselling services and specialist consultations through a two-tier system. This includes Tele-MANAS cells at the state level for initial consultations and referrals to medical colleges or mental health programs for more complex cases. The service is accessible via a toll-free number (14416 or 1-800-91-4416), which routes calls to the nearest regional Tele-MANAS cell.
This initiative is expected to play a vital role in making mental healthcare accessible to everyone across India, while also ensuring continuity of care through integration with other telemedicine platforms like e-Sanjeevani.
